Chapter 1
Flowerheart restlessly sorted herbs about. What am I going to do about all this sickness? I am only an apprentice basicly! She thought worriedly. "Hey, Flowerheart!" She jumped, then her fur lay flat again as she recognized the bracken colored fur emerging through the entrance. "Oh, Honeycloud, you startled me!" She squeaked. "Oh, sorry, I just wanted to know if you could get this thorn out of my paw." Flowerheart suddenly realized that Honeycloud was limping slightly. "Oh, I'll take it out - Come here." Honeycloud obeyed, and padded awkwardly over. She held up her paw for Flowerheart to inspect. "So," Flowerheart meowed as she began to pull the thorn out, "how'd you get this thorn in your paw?" Honeycloud sat down, "Oh, I was running too fast... I was racing Sootpelt." Flowerheart nodded, "How is the training going with Smokepaw?" Flowerheart plucked the thorn out of her paw, and Honeycloud winced. "Well... It is going well. He's a quick learner, and is a very good hunter!" Flowerheart smiled. "Anyway, I am starving! See you later!" Honeycloud flicked her tail in farewell, then trotted out of the den. "Flowerheart, are you okay?" Flowerheart nodded at her mother, Tangleflower. "Yes mother... I'm just...distracted." "By what?" Her mother urged. Flowerheart gazed at Honeycloud and Sootpelt sharing a thrush together; completely dazed. Tangleflower prodded Flowerheart's side. "Ouch," Flowerheart flipped out of her trance. "Uh, What was it mother?" Tangleflower sighed. "Okay, what's wrong Flowerheart?" She signaled toward the medicine cat den, and they padded over."Okay Flowerheart, what's bothering you?" Flowerheart shuffled her paws. "Mother... I just really..." Flowerheart hesitated. Tangleflower blinked, and leaned closer. "I just... I really wish I could love someone." Tangleflower sighed. "Oh, Flowerheart. You know you can't take a mate." Flowerheart stared at her mother. "You think I didn't know that? I just really am....am...I'm..." Flowerheart let out a large sigh. "I am very lonely, and am jelous of Honeycloud. Her and Sootpelt are best friends! Wait, they're practically mates." Tangleflower nuzzled Flowerheart. "I think that you should forget about this mate thing. You already know your duty, and tend to the sick cats." Flowerheart blinked slowly, and rose to her paws. She shook herself, and added quickly, "You're right... I shouldn't be worrying about other toms..." Tangleflower stood up too. "Good... Also, who was that cat that you... liked?" Flowerheart scratched at the grassy earth. "Oh, nobody. Just forget it..." Tangleflower nodded, and padded out of the grass den. Chapter 2
"Hey Honeycloud, wait up!" Honeycloud sighed, and looked behind her to see Reedwhisker bounding up to her. "I thought I'd come with you on the hunting patrol!" When does he stop bothering me? Honeycloud thought in her mind. "So, what's up Honeycloud?" He meowed, trotting at the same pace beside her. "Nothing..." She growled lowly. Reedwhisker stopped, and his eyes clouded with sadness. "You don't like me, do you?" Honeycloud turned around and hissed, "I have no idea why you keep following me! Get lost!!" Reedwhisker recoiled, his ears flattened, and raced away. Honeycloud let her fur lay flat again, then decided to head back with the prey she had caught. Finally that cat is going to stop bothering me... She thought. Honeycloud arrived back at camp; Reedwhisker was nowhere is sight. Sootpelt spotted her, and called her over to the freshkill pile to share a meal. She trotted over, and took a seat beside him. "So how was hunting?" he asked. "Oh... Fine, except Reedwhisker keeps following me." Sootpelt pushed a plump vole over to her. "Is there a problem with that? Should I talk to him?" Honeycloud took a bite, and answered, "No, I handled it." Sootpelt glanced at her warily. "In what kind of manner did you do that?" He meowed, chewing on a mouse. "I told him to get lost, of course." She replied. "Oh... well, he came racing in, and went straight to the warriors' den, without a word to anyone." Honeycloud finished up her vole, and swiped her toungue over her jaws. "Well, maybe he should grow up." Sootpelt stared at her in disbelief. Reedwhisker was his brother, and many cats made fun of him. Sootpelt felt it his duty to stand up for his shy brother. "Reedwhisker is grown up. You know he likes you, I think you need to get over yourself." Sootpelt shoved his half-eaten mouse over to Honeycloud, and stomped away, tail lashing. "Also, I am going to stay away from you; until you can think about what you are going to do with your life." Honeycloud's heart sunk. Now everyone was against her but Flowerheart. What does he mean I have to think about my life? I have already planned it! Me and him shall have kits, and I'll be a loyal warrior! That was simple enough for her. She sighed, and pushed away Sootpelt's mouse. She padded over to Flowerheart's den. "Flowerheart? You in there?" Honeycloud called in. Tortoiseshell fur was seen brushing by the fern entrance. "Hey Honeycloud! What's up? You're not hurt are you?" Honeycloud sat down, and licked her sister in greeting. "Oh... Me and Sootpelt got into a fight." Flowerheart sat down and narrowed her eyes. "About what?" "Well... Reedwhisker. I was angry with him, he's always following me everywhere! So I told him to get lost and then I went back to camp and talked with Sootpelt. Then we got into a little fight. He told me he wasn't going to be with me until I thought about what I was going to do with my life..." She meowed, "But I don't understand! I do know what I'm going to do with life! It's simple!" Flowerheart's head was dipped in thought. "Honeycloud... I think you do need to think about life. Life isn't simple. You need to talk to someone else. I am not the person to talk to about life." Flowerheart stood up, and gave her chest a couple of quick licks. Honeycloud's mind was spinning. I don't have to think about life! I know exactly what I'm doing, and that's that!Sootpelt and Reedwhisker slunk out of the warriors' den. There they go... She thought. Sootpelt cast her a sharp look, and kept talking with his brother, Reedwhisker. Honeycloud sighed, and padded over to the freshkill pile. "Oh, hi Brambletail." She waved at the tabby warrior with her tail. He replied the greeting, and signaled for Tansyleaf. She sighed again. Everyone is acting so...unfriendly. She thought helplessly. Chapter 3
"Flowerheart!! Flowerheart! Get out here!!" Flowerheart turned her head to the urgent calls, then raced out of her den. "What is it, Thor-" She looked at the ground to see that Thornear was teared to shreds..dead. She saw Weaselfur standing over Thornear's body, a grim look on his face. "It was a territory attack..." He mumbled. Smokefire and Sootpelt staggered into the clearing, fur had been ripped off of their pelts. "Over here," She directed for the wounded warriors. She rushed back to her den, and grabbed some cobwebs, poppy seeds, and marigold. Flowerheart darted back to the wounded warriors and began to pad some cobwebs into their injuries. She saw Honeycloud rush over to Sootpelt. He gave her a sharp look, and she backed away. Honeycloud got some cobwebs, and smothered it on Smokefire's shoulder wound. He gave her a warm look, that made her look away. "Flowerheart?" Flowerheart snapped out of her trance and looked at Reedwhisker. "Oh, sorry Reedwhisker." She gave him some marigold, then padded over to Weaselfur. Honeycloud crept into the warriors' den as the sun had set and stars twinkled above. She curled up and looked around. Suddenly she heard rustling, and then a red tabby figure slinked into the den. "Hello," He whispered. Honeycloud ducked away and mewed back, "Good night." She couldn't see perfectly, but was sure she saw hurt in his eyes. He sighed, and curled up into his nest. "Good night..."" He meowed quietly.Chapter 4
Flowerheart lay in her den, daydreaming. The light of a crescent moon filtered into her den. Stop thinking about him. Just forget it. She thought to herself. Slowly, Flowerheart finally fell asleep.
